It's our first anniversary next month, i believe its cotton for the first year, but i have no idea what to get. We're going to venice to celebrate and i've found moonpig to personalise a card but anything else would be a help.

Both my children celebrated their first wedding anniversaries over the last two years. I think it is the "paper" anniversary. Anyhow, that is where I came from with a gift. A paperweight. If you are going to Venice which is known for its glass, I am sure you will be able to find some beautiful examples.0

May I make a suggestion, buy a really nice but very large anniversary card, leave your message at the top of the card, next year dig the same card out leave a message under the first, the following year do the same again, in twenty five years you will be able to display this at your silver wedding party and you will be able to look back on your life together, plus its a really good money saving exercise, I know it may sound corny now, but it really will be worth it, when you look back. Happy first anniversary to you both.Make it happen (old signature)

First anniversary is paper. I wrote my OH a poem for our 1st anniversary. He was very touched by it.
Paper
When I look back, I call to mind
A time when I hoped I would find
A love that I could call my own
So long the time I spent alone.
The first time that we got together
You told me we should last forever.
The day you came into my life
I hoped I'd one day be your wife.
Do you recall the day we wed?
The smiles we shared, the tears we shed?
I often sit and think awhile
About our happy day and smile,
Because i know I've found in you
A heart so warm, a love so true;
And laughs apart, and jokes aside
I wear my "ball and chain" with pride.
A year has now passed since that day,
And still in every single way
The love I have for you stays strong:
Beside you is where I belong.
Whatever coming years may bring,
I'll still be proud to wear you rring.
And every day, come sun or rain
My vows to you, I'd make again

We've already decided not to buy each other anniversary presents. We've decided we'd rather go out for a nice meal to celebrate instead. Don't know how you and your other half feel about that method, but it might save some money over the years! Here I go again on my own....0

thats what we did too  i did write and poem for him and have it printed out to put in his card so he had his something "paper" lol0 -
i made a card with an wordsearch on it - there was a post a few months back on one of the boards with a link to a site where you could put in all the words you wanted, and then when they're all crossed out there's a hidden message in the remaining words.
i managed to use lots of words that meant something to both of us, and it went down really well
(and since my literary talent is non-existant, it's a nice alternative to a poem because that is well past my abililities!)
if anyone wants it, post here or PM me and i'll dig out the link:happyhear0
