Has anyone else had this?
We went skating yesterday, family ticket (4) + skate hire - £23.
Out comes the trusty Switch card.
"That will be an extra £1 please sir"
"Sorry?" says I.
"Yes a pound"
"Thats a bit steep" says I to the world in general.
No comment from money taker.
There was a sign - A4 - on the back wall, with this detailed - but not very readable from the front of the desk.
Well hacked off with this as the fee for them (Planet Ice - Basingstoke), for Switch should be <15p

Agree £1 is steep. Charges vary from bank to bank but usual minimum is £15 per month for hire of debit/credit card swipe machine and 15p-40p per switch transaction. Credit cards are usually about 2 or 3% of value of transaction.

Well how ridiculous!!!!!!
Charging the customer for using the card to cover the outlets expenses to the bank!!????
::) Has the world gone mad? Compared to how much the outlet would have to pay in wages to the poor !!!!!! who used to have to count up all that cash and coinage, these outlets are laughing all the way to the bank - literally!
Hmmmm, maybe it's a letter to your MP case - for all of us!~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

This seems to be standard practice these days.
Anyone else noticed on their Tesco (or whatever supermarket) receipt it says that 2.5% (I think it is) has been added to the cost of the goods to cover credit cards - even if you pay by cash!!! >:(0 -

They are not saying they are adding extra to your bill merely telling you that 2.5% of what you have paid will be handed over to the card company. If you pay by cash no money will be ;)handed over to the company.~Laugh and the world laughs with you, weep and you weep alone.~:)

No, that doesnt seem right, I've paid by cash and had the same thing on the receipt. Plus Tescos (or whoever) have to make the money somehow, hence it's added onto the cost of your food.0 -
They might not actually be handing over the money.
However they are stating it so that they don't have to pay VAT on it.
17.5% of 2.5% of tescos bill is huge.0 -

Poppy's right Bridie and so is Altarf saying that it's an accounting trick. Think how many people pay by credit card because of the convenience over cash and you'll find that the extra customers they get from offering to take card transactions will more than cover any costs of handling those transactions0 -

the accounts would have to show that they do actually transfer the money between the companies otherwise they would get in alot of trouble0
