Getting a refund problem

Hi. I am not to good at explaining this on forums but will try.
About july last year a bought a CCTV DVR recorder from SCTltd for £421.
To cut a long story short, I had to send it back about a month ago because it was faulty, did not do what it was ment to. They messed me about and took almost a month to get it sorted. It was to long and wish I asked for my money back then. Anyway got it back this week and only had a chance to test it yesterday. Well there is another problem of picture quality now, that was not there before. So I call again and they said they will get the manufacture to sort it, so I said, no not this time and I want my money back. I got cut off so phoned the main office and spoke to the owner.
He said that he was only prepared to pay back half and only had until the end of yesterday. So I have reluctantly agreed but not sent it back yet.
Trading standards said i could calim back from my credit card or take his offer.. The problem is I have to go through all this hassle with my CC and I may not get all my money back. The CC said it could take up to 14 days to say if they can help or not but i'm stuck in a rut, as I don't know what to do for the best. I am short on time as he is expecting it back next week. The boss said he would not make any other offers of a refund if I don't take his offer. BTW the amount he said was £200, a bit less than I worked out he also refused to pay return postage and said I would have to pay it. I had this problem before with them
So what do I do or can I do?
Thanks.

Exactly what TSS have told you to do.
I gather from the thread title that you are seeking a full refund. Given that you have had the item (and use of it) for approximately 13 of the last 14 months, I don't see that the offer of £200 is totally unreasonable. From a legal perspective it it entirely feasible for them to make that offer.
If you feel that you should get more, then be prepared to fight this in a small claims court and remember that to do so you will need to provide proof of the fault, and then try to convince the judge why £200 isn't enough.
As for the postage element, that's just part of the negotiation.
That's what you can do, but as to what you DO do, that only you can answer.0 -
Thanks for the reply.
Yes I would rather get most of my money back, more than the offer.
The Item has a 2 year warranty to.
TS did explain to me about using the item but they said, you need to have an idea of the average life of the item. First I was told ten years then I was told by the boss, 3 years. Now even though I have used it for a year and the item is still faulty, not fit, I should be able to have most of my money back. It's the, how long it should last, thats the problem. There not going to say it will last longer, because they would have to refund more money. It's all so confusing sometimes.
Well I am thinking about taking the offer but I lose out on about £200 and not happy about it. I would claim back from my CC but it's all the redtape that you have to go through.0
