Scrappage/second hand advice, with a slight twist...

i think anyway...

my Girlfriend is after a new car after her 02 ford ka (1.3i) gearbox conked out the other week. the garage it was taken to has quote £379 to fix it, bearing in mind that there has already been ~ £600 in repairs spent on it already this year, we think it's time she got rid of it for something a bit more substantial and reliable....
She also has a V reg ford escort (1.6, iirc) available to her as well.

she would like a facelift golf (Mk V, 05-07, range), but would possibly go for a new spec MK IV. 03+)
either a 1.6 FSi or 1.9TDi

the question is, what to do....

from what i see, the ka doesn't come under scrappage allowance, so cannot be used to get a scrappage deal. the ford escort does, but probably wouldn't get much from the dealer. AND it wouldnt be a new car, so does that mean scrappage is out of the question?

what i would like to do is to fix the Ka myself (which i can do, might take abit longer than a garage, but i've got experience to help me, and it'd be a hell of a lot cheaper), and somehow use both cars to get a new(ish) car?

confused about what to do....

  • scrappage is only on new cars

the condition of the car to be scrapped doesnt matter as long as you have owned it for a year, ten years old and it has a valid mot
  • i would repair the ka and sell them both to buy a nearly new car

could both be used together part-ex style for a nearly-new car?

Without being disrespectable to the OP, bearing in mind the present state of the KA, and the age of the escort, it is time to start again from scratch.

Part ex both cars?, no, no chance, they have no real value. Sell privately if you can, but disregard the option to chop in:money:
I like the thanks button, but ,please, an I agree button.

Will the grammar and spelling police respect I do make grammatical errors, and have carp spelling, no need to remind me.;)

Always expect the unexpected:eek:and then you won't be dissapointed
