Hi all
quite new to this site only been on a few times before, I have recently decided upon bankruptcy after seeking advice from CCCS.
In my debt advice sheet it advises me that there are some utiliti companies that offer help towards bankruptcy fees, does any one have any idea which companies these are and what are classed as utilitie bills apart from, gas, electric & water?
Also when my bankruptcy starts rolling do i actually have to attend the court myself? How long does it take until I will finally be classed as bankrupt from the time i hand in my forms?
do i post the forms, or hand direct to the courts?
confused
thanks guys in advance for any answers

Hi Sammy,
I decided to (forced into) bankruptcy about 2 weeks ago and have found out so much from this website! You fill the forms out on the insolvency website then it puts it in to the forms that you print off and take to court. I go to court on the 12th October, basically you ring the court nearest to you that deals with bankruptcy and they give you a date to attend. Think it depends on where you live to how long you have to wait but only 2 weeks for me. You can go to court yourself (what im doing) or could probably pay solicitor to represent you but not sure! Read as many posts as you can from people going thru the process helps put you at ease. Not as frightening as i thought the process would be.
Good luck and ask as many questions as you need.0 -
If you are on a low income then you can get remission on the court fees of £150.
If you go to the CAB they can help you sort out who may give you help with the OR's fees of £365. Are you ex forces or have been in a particular profession for a long time?
Some reading from the Bankruptcy Help sticky
Court fee remission and forms.- HMCS - Court fees do you have to pay them? (And guidance on completing the fee remission form). (pdf)
- HMCS - Form EX160 - Application for a fee remission (pdf)
- Example application for a fee remission based on gross annual income - EX160 (Thanks to NE Derbyshire CAB)
- Example application for a fee remission based on permitted benefits - EX160 (Thanks to NE Derbyshire CAB)
- Possible assistance with Bankruptcy costs / fees (Thanks to NE Derbyshire CAB)
I would strongly suggest you read through the Bankruptcy Help sticky as there is a lot of info. on it.

You don't need anybody to reperesent you. it is easy to do your self. If you read through past posts you can see how painless most people found it.BSCno.87The only stupid question is an unasked oneLoving life as a Kernow Hippy0 -

Yes you bring your filled in forms and payment on the day in Court. You go in front of a (not scary in my experience) judge for a couple of minutes and then all your forms get stamped and you get a copy of your BR order. Then, a few days after that you get a call from the Official Reciever who will arrange a telephone or in person interview to go through your forms and budget in more detail.

right well thats clearer thank you,
what happens when the OR contacts you then?
and should I contact my creditors and tell them what my intentions are?0 -
right well thats clearer thank you,
what happens when the OR contacts you then? you'll have a very quick natter when you finish in court...then they'll send you some info through the post and a date for usually a telephone interview...they'll go through your spending old statments etc asking a few questions about your finances
and should I contact my creditors and tell them what my intentions are? up to you...BUT i'd say NO as once the creditor knows of your intentions they'll pester you day & night to get any ammount of cash from you
Hope that helps
