Abbey Zero Charging 3% BT Fee

Sorry if this has been discussed before but i received my statement today and on it they say they would be charging 3% on bt. I thought the whole idea of having a zero card is so there are no fees charged apart from interest. Is santander in their right to do this? has anyone else come across this.

My understanding is that it charges you 0% interest on transfer, this has nothing to do with the fee to make the actual balance transfer, only that you will be charged 0% on that balance.

    From their site:

    Abbey / Santander Zero

    - 0% foreign exchange fee
    - 0% cash advance fee 1
    - 0% for 3 months on purchases from date of account opening
    - 0% for 12 months on balance transfers from date of account opening. 3% fee applies (minimum £5)2
  • It's all here on their website, with the 3% transfer free.

    Edit - Beaten to it.

Thanks for the reply interest is charged at the variable rate but bt fee has always been zero since i have had the card for the last couple of years but they have changed their t&c.

Yep I rushed and missed some words hence the edit :o

Interest at 18.9% variable I think it said but still a fee on the transfer, not sure previously but that is the charge stated on their site now. They are within their rights to amend or change their t&c's and possible have done if this wasn't charged before.

Myabe they thought they were missing out on some revenue!
  • okay thanks for your replies

I got an Abbey Zero several months ago. I got 0% APR for 6 months + 0% fee on BT, 0% on purchases for 6 months.

Shortly afterwards they stopped promoting the card before relaunching it under slightly different terms. I believe the deal is now you get 0% APR for 12 months, but with a 3% fee. Purchases is 0% for 3 months only.
