Can anyone recommend an IP in the Leeds area?

Hi all,
I have a *shed load* of debt, and currently no way of ever getting out of it. I now have more going out than coming in. I wanted to try to face up to the mess that I have created and get myself out of it, but it’s just not going to happen. Until recently it was only affecting me, but now it’s starting to affect my relationship so I need to take action.
I have been doing a lot of research about my options and an IVA is the best option for me. Can anyone recommend an IP in the Leeds area? Or if it’s possible for it to be done long distance, any IPs that come highly recommended?
Thanks in advance...

Most IPs are able to set up an IVA without ever having to actually meet you in person. I went with Payplan who along with CCCS are the companies that most would recommend on here. Anyone else you should be suspicious of as there are many companies out there just trying to rip you off. Anyone who tries to take fees before your IVA has been accepted by your creditors should be avoided.Debt as at 12th July 2006 - £61,345
Debt free 21st Oct 2011.
All thanks to :money:0 -
Dont get me started on a CCCS rant!
If you dont want to speak to anyone about your debt problems for at least two months then by all means contact the CCCS.
However, as James has just said above me, all you really want to avoid is any company who wants to take money off you before providing you with a service or solution - plenty of them around!
There are enough reputable, ethical companies out there though - if you have any doubts, then ask on here and someone will probably be able to give you a heads up, that's the benefit of other people's experience!Would you ask the wolves to look after the sheep?

I used Daly & Co ... they are based in Sheffield.
He's a good guy and very helpful/understanding.

Just an update on my situation in case anyone else is considering an IVA, or is at a similar stage….
Well, I got round to facing up to things and am now just waiting for meeting with my creditors in 10 days. Think I have experienced all emotions since I first contacted a couple of different IPs. Horror as we worked out how much debt I have, panic as I didn’t know how I’d ever get out of this mess, then a *massive* sense of relief as I talked things through with my IP and they explained everything nice and clearly. I then experienced love for the 2 different people I spoke to. Felt like I was on the verge of a breakdown before I spoke to them, and then completely at ease afterwards.
After that, I then experienced real fear. I had to explain to my girlfriend what a mes I had gotten into, and what I was doing to try to get out of it. Was worried she would see me as the failure I do (or did, not sure) and dump me, leaving me single and also homeless. But I should have had more faith, and she was great about it, incredibly supportive. So there was a bit more love.
After a couple of weeks of getting paperwork etc together, I am now just waiting for D-Day. I have mixed feelings about this. In some ways it can’t come quick enough, and in other ways I hope it doesn’t arrive (just in case for whatever reason my creditors tell me to stick it).
But at least I am doing something now instead of just ignoring it all and hoping it goes away or somehow sorts itself out.
Fingers crossed all goes well….0 -
Its amazing isnt it - I was the same, and Im now in my final year.
Good for you for facing up to it, and doing something about it.
Good Luck

If your creditors reject your proposal (which at this stage i would suppose would be worst case scenario) then there are still options! It's a set-back sure but it doesn't just throw you back on the debtors dust heap. Your IP (or his company) will likely discuss what to do next with you.
The most likely suggestion would be to resubmit your proposal the following month. Your IP is unlikely to have taken on a case and spent time researching, drafting and submitting a proposal he doesn't feel should be successful. If the proposal is rejected then it likely that the problem can be remedied.
Creditors usually dont simply reject proposals out of hand, generally they ask for (or demand) a few modifications (like to stop your gym subscription, you downsize your car, move to an interest only mortgage, things like that - or the proposal must run for six years which is a popular one now with Northern Rock)! If the modifications can't be agreed with you in time (ie during the 16 days statutory waiting time for a creditors meeting) then the proposal would be rejected but the problems would not be insurmountable!

It is Such a sense of relief once you get the ball rolling. I currently have 6 months reamining of my 3 years with a Scottish Trust Deed (same as English IVA) and am very much looking forward to the last payment. I have learnt my lesson I can tell you. If I cant afford to pay for it then I don't buy it.0

Creditors meeting today and all went well. Only modification was an extra tenner per month.
Such a relief to finally see the light at the end of the tunnel, even if it is still a long way off until I reach it.
Would highly recommend McCambridge Duffy if anyone is thinking of going down this route in future. Made the whole process very straightforward and less daunting than it was initially.
