Moving a lamp post

Don't know if this is right place for this....
Can you move a lampost moved from outside your house? I've widened my drive slightly, and a lamp post that used to be a bit of a nuisance is now a right pain for getting on and off the drive.
I'm not suggesting I should do this myself, maybe just a bit beyond my capabilities, I'm willing to have a go at most things, but think I'll leave this to someone a bit more skilled.
Can you get someone to move it without telling the council? Or do you have to contact the council? And anyone know how much it costs?
Ta knowledgeable people..

Did you get planning permission to widen the drive? (I assume it is necessary?) If so, why was the lamp post issue not taken into consideration then?Northern Ireland club member No 382 :j0

councils are on a streetlighting replacement programme. contact them and find out when your st is being done. maybe then it can be moved. for free?
otherwise itll take ages to get them to agree (if at all) and itll cost you a small fortune.Get some gorm.0 -
When I saw widen the drive, the drive was laid with gravel, in a quite irregular shape, we simply had it relaid and straightened up, taking out a bit of lawn, so no, no planning permission. Lamppost has always been a nuisance, just its a little more of a nuisance and moving it would be useful. I didn't really realise it would be such a nuisance, we can still get two cars on the drive, just a bit awkward.
As to the replacement programme thing, there was a new metal lampost put in place of the old concrete one a couple of years ago, is that what you mean??0 -
yes thats it.
i did wonder if yours had already been done!Get some gorm.0 -
In know my council also replaced the light themselves in some places and removed the bright orange ones for ones that are white light but are dim they use even less energy0
