Best student account?

Options
My daughter is 17 and is going to uni next year, which account is the best for students? She is with Lloyds TSB at the moment.

We won't know until next summer.....

Student account info aren't usually released until June/July. You can look at this years for a general guide though.

Your daughter could stick with Llodyds TSB if she wants. All she needs to do is upgrade her account next year.

Their student account offers aren't bad.

The best one is Halifax, but getting the overdraft (not full amount sometimes) and the account can be a bit tricky.

Most students go for Halifax (up to £3k interest free overdraft, although obviously the amount she'll get depends on credit history), or Natwest (free 5 year railcard).

But as Lokolo said, these are this year's offers, and although they don't tend to change from one year to the next, they may well do. She won't be able to open one until she gets her confirmation letter from UCAS after results day.

I've been looking around student accounts as well, and so far RBS seem to have the best.

The two things that made me decide on RBS over HBOS (who I'm with now) is that they do a three year Graduate account with an interest free overdraft which I imagine will be nice once I graduate, and obviously the railcard. The railcard isn't just a railcard by the way, it doubles as a student discount card in certain stores and websites.

I think Natwest and RBS have pretty much the same student offerings - although RBS does pay a higher rate of interest.

Don't go by graduate overdrafts. You can change banks at that point ;)

But railcard is useful if you travel by train a lot :)
