nuisance calls

Many years ago I put our home phone number on the TPS list and never had much trouble with nuisance calls, however in the last few months I am now getting several calls a week during the daytime from companies trying to flog me all sorts of stuff but mainly it is Double Glazing firms and Companies selling cavity wall/loft insulation pretending to be calling on behalf of the UK Government offering Grants.
Last month a sales person even told me to F off when I asked her why her company did not check the TPS list before calling.
This is getting to be a problem and most of these callers do it with "Number Withheld" or even a number that when you ring it back it is unobtainable.
I have tried ringing BT several times but they say they can not do anything to stop these calls apart from offering for a fee to block the numbers, however I do not know the numbers because they are being withheld etc.
The main problems I have is that I work nights and therefore sleep during the day, and these calls always seem to ring 30 minutes after I drop off to sleep.
A few people told me to unplug the phone to stop it ringing, however I can not do this as most days I am on relief callout with my company.
Does anyone know a way to stop these firms from bypassing the TPS and calling me.
Thanks

I'm surprised they didn't try to sell you their 'Anonymous Call Reject' Service. It won't stop the persistent nuisance caller. But it will mean that they'll have to reveal the number they're calling from.It wasn't me.. honest..0

I have Panasonic's latest 84+ series of DECT phones. You can block all sorts of people, only allow certain people through etc etc. Set and forget.

Give your company your mobile number to ring you for the relief callout and unplug your home phone. If you don't want your company to have your mobile number, get another sim.Marsh Samphire0
