To get into debt is also from the media as well, they are the one that show all the program about how to make millions by buying and selling houses but they didn't say that the people that did it , they did it 20 years ago and not now ..

Exactly you see time and time again these people on TV buying homes refurbishing them thinking theyll make millions, but in reality they have spent a year working for very low income, when they split the profits. Some even dont manage to break even.

The calculations which I did showed that saving a large deposit didn't actually make much difference to the date on which I paid off my mortgage. The whole point is that saving doesn't get your further ahead.

Our calculations are rather different. We are paying £1k per month in rent, incl. water, in a place theoretically worth well north of half a million. £1k monthly is a pretty low rent in central London. We don't have expensive travel costs, and both work, so we are saving a lot but not going without things we enjoy.

18 months ago they were posting on this sight like a plague, forecasting another big crash, trying to put everyone off buying. Then there has been a conspicuous silence from them for the last 12 months while the sensible majority have continued to enjoy the growth in their "unwise" investment..

I take it you've not noticed the average fall in house prices of some 7% since last summer?

and most important of all......who wants to live with their folks!!! I moved out at 18 and bought the first house i could find! That was 14 years ago, i'd not be to happy today if i was still at parents house saving up my pennies!

finance is important, but so is life.

    Life is very important.

The thing is, people can have a great life living with people they love (parents, for example) or by renting. It's not "must own to be happy".

The comment you are referring to was posted in May 2006. It may have been true then.

That's cheap!! Are you doing some work for them and waiving your fees?
