Standing order into closed account ?

I`ve just checked my bank acc and have had £250 standing order paid into an account i closed last month,
Could somebody please tell me what happens in this situation please ?

Does it automatically go back to my bank accont.

Depends....

It may be 'bounced back' into your bank account.
It may get held in a 'holding account' while the receiving institution contacts you.
Or, as happened to me once when I had several accounts with a savings institution and in error I transferred some money into an earlier account which had since been closed, the building Society applied the incoming funds to the most recent account (it was instant access) and sent me a letter telling me what they had done: entirely sensible in my view.
