Been using 000webhost (free) as mentioned above for a business that needs to be run down slowly, so why pay hosting fees? Good if you are bit tech savvy.0

Or, I recently suggested 000webhost, which offer a free hosting service with enough options in the package to suit most people's needs.

I would second 34sp, i've been using them for about 8-9 years now.
Unfortunately they don't do very low budget hosting any more, as apart from existing customers on their old "personal" packages they start at their "pro" package these days (£4 a month for 5gb space, 20gb bandwidth, 100 email in boxes, spam/virus filtering, smtp etc).
I've just moved from the old personal package I was on (about £20 a year) to the lowest pro one because I wanted the extra space/email options (planning on putting up a gallery for family, and a subdomain with ftp for my brother).0 -
My OH runs a small business which gets a lot of leads via his website. At present this is hosted on an ISP but it is increasingly falling foul of the latest anti spam security and other sofware being installed by businesses. Access to his website is being blocked because it is designated a personal not a business site.
The way round this seems to be to set up a website which would be recognised as a business website and we should like to do this by renting our own space direct on a large server somewhere as we have the expertise to maintain it once set up. Can anyone suggest providers of server space in this way and the potential costs? The whole world is a circus - don't be the clown!0 -

This sounds like Surfcontrol or similar is blocking it from the other end, so moving your content elsewhere probably won't help. Pop the URL in the tester at http://mtas.surfcontrol.com/mtas/MTAS.asp and see how it's classified.
Surfcontrol (for example) has a database of site classifications into broad categories, which businesses can then assign as being either work or non-work related. (If the site doesn't exist in its database then it can be dynamically classified.) The classification is ultimately based on the website (and/or page) content, so moving it isn't necessarily going to help.te audire non possum. musa sapientum fixa est in aure.0 -
Careful with 1&1 -- some servers have not been updated to latest Apache, and/or have memory issues, thus making auto update of Wordpress and some of its plug-ins impossible. Their poor English tech support repeatedly tell me they are planning to update...sometime.
I have been using eUKHost for my community & charity websites (ask for a discount!). They have been generally okay, although I have had some severe downtime due to other websites on the shared server going haywire.

tsohost - I use them for all mu business needs and they are brilliant. Support is second to none.

I also use 1and1 who are quite reasonable but support is poor in my experience - some far off call centre and bills are quite difficult to follow as someone else noted.0 -
I would avoid most of the big players in the country to be fair, fasthost & one and one et al as they all offer mediocre service for a midrannge or premium price.
Others have mentioned some they use but before you make a leap think about how important the site is to your Husbands business. Would a couple of hours down time matter to him? If so you need a host who has there servers within a close distance to there technical staff.
Do you need 24hr support or just business hours?
Etc
once you have your requirements do some research and then ask the short listed hosts if they can match them, then hopefully you will not be disappointed.
Is it an ecommerce site he is hosting or just a informational? If its e-commerce or really essential I personally would think about looking at a VPS, (Virtual Private Server), more flexible and less effected by others hosted on the same physical server. The only way of finding the limits of the possible is by going beyond them into the impossible.
