Yes Im telling lies and nah you're right, who cares... over and out.0

I am not arguing who is right and who is telling lies. If you feel you are not getting anywhere with SLC Correspondence Department and HMRC, try raising a formal complaint. That way it will be looked at somebody who actually understands the repayment process for people like yourself who are PAYE and/or SA.0

You invariably get a better result if you deal with such situations in writing rather than by telephone.Declutterbug-in-progress.⭐️⭐️⭐️ ⭐️⭐️0

Not with student loans. Unless the letter is in writing to the customer complaints teams you wont get an official complaint logged.0

No you dont. I have been phoning and writing to them for months. By phone otherwise they take weeks to reply with something completely irrelevant.I am not arguing who is right and who is telling lies. That was aimed at IWantToBeFree as its annoying to have someone say its not that difficult. It really is that difficult to get money back when you PAYE + SA as Poolie quite rightly hits the nail on the head. Further phone has yielded this is the reason why Im having so much trouble.
There’s a whole raft of paper work apparently that needs to be sent to the HMRC as the student loans company will not issue a refund if your SA. Not a penny no matter how much you moan. Its only taken since August for them to communicate this!
So, I have to wait another month while all the paperwork gets sorted out then I may be able to claim it back early....so maybe in a couple of months `sigh`
The only reason why I’ve calmed down a little is after several phone calls I understand the process and I’ve confirmed that interest will be applied to the money. If only someone could have explained this earlier!
Although only after spending the best part of a morning moaning and not giving up, to the HMRC's credit they spent the rest of the morning phoning around understanding why there was such an issue and phoned me back several times, although when they first phone me back to tell me that the student loans company hadn’t got any of my payslips (which I have signed delivery of, twice) and I needed to send them I nearly exploded.
I hope this thread is at least help to anyone encountering the same issues.0 -
have a look at this- you want to get in touch with the East Kilbride Student Loans Unit within HMRC. They should be able to sort out the repayment. (I haven't got a postal address but you might be able to get it by calling HMRC)

There problem is you will not get to speak to the Student Loans Unit at East Kilbride. SLC will not refund SA payments to you but to HMRC. To get the repayment you would have to send in a adjusted Self Assessment for the related tax year - doing this would be best discussed with HMRC as they will be able to advise. Just a word of warning if you do go this route then anything paid via SA would then become liable with SLC which means your payments from your employer might start again.0

Thanks jiggy2 but I think Poolie is correct as the SLC just wownt interact with me, they just refer me to the HMRC.
"Just a word of warning if you do go this route then anything paid via SA would then become liable with SLC which means your payments from your employer might start again."
This is the only route the HMRC have offered as the SLC have sent an adjusted 07-08 SA. Previously (for the 07/08 year) I used my P60 from PAYE employment then filled out a SA for the extra income earned with deductions for costs.. After that, Tax/NI and SL came out (then I cried looking at the amount theyd deducted...but thats another story
)
Im not exactly sure what your saying? My PAYE employer would start to deduct money again? Ive paid off the SLC in full.0 -
If you have your SA payment for SLC refunded by HMRC. I cannot remember if SLC will send back all the money for SA or just the amount they need. The rules were changed many times over the last few years.
Then SLC will be given an ammended file from HMRC which may trigger the payments from your employer by PAYE.0 -

But it is difficult in many cases...0
