Cat pee

My cat peed on the carpet behind the couch the other night. At the time, I cleaned it with dettol. Could still smell it so I cleaned it with Vax carpet cleaner twice! Also sprayed febreze but I am convinced I can still smell it!
Any one any hints/tips how I can get the smell out the carpet?

  • Biological washing powder.
The quickest way to double your money is to fold it in half and put it back in your pocket.

Hi!! I posted something similar last week and a couple of people recommended biological washing powder...I used the washing powder in the vax cleaner and then a day later filled a bowl with hot water and washing powder and scrubbed the area with a cloth...this has made a huge difference. Of course I still think I can smell it so maybe I'll go over the area again but washing powder has definitely worked better than anything else I've tried.

I'd leave the bio washing powder to soak on for a bit as the enzymes need time to take effect.

as long as it is biological daz, lol.
you don't want the NON bio, if that helps.

also if pee has soaked through, you may need to remove the underlay, as that holds alot of fluid and smell.

soda water also can help remove the smell.

can you tell i have cats.lol.
THANKS to everyone who posts competitions. you are all :A.
  • This website has the recipe for cleaning the area and some other stuff to help in case she does it again.

All the cleaning products you have used contain ammonia which just smell of pee to the cat, and will encourage them to urinate in the same spot again.

  • Thanks I have just poured hot water on the carpet, a cup of washing powder scrubbed, scrubbed and scrubbed some more, poured water and washing powder over area again, went out with the dog and am now sucking up the water with the vax. Hoping it works if not my hands are nice and soft from the washing powder:D

Thanks for the link and replies. I know what cat is the culprit just don't want her brother to follow! Or the dog!

if you catch you cat in the act and find the damp patch sprinkle with bicarbonate of soda and allow to soak in/up. this works well too. if all else fails you can purchase urine off from the net, this works on old stains too and is fantastically effective.
