Will you choose RICS- or non-RICS Chartered Surveyor, or nomatterwho?

Hello everyone,
Could someone please explain to me what are the main differences between the two types of surveyors mentioned above? which one would you go for should you want to do full structural survey?
Are there any other types of chartered surveyors that people should go for or avoid to? And how to check to make sure that a surveyor or surveying firm has license to practise (apart from checking RICS website which provides quite limited list of surveyors)?
Many thanks and look forward to hearing from you.
Cheers,

If you have a mortgage valuation, homebuyer report or full building survey carried out then the Surveyors have to be RICS Chartered Surveyors. If somebody calls themselves a Chartered Surveyor they are most likely members of RICS. RICS are the main professional body for Surveyors and their advice should be sought over non-chartered Surveyors. Membership of RICS guarantees moral, ethical and professional standards and means that the Surveyor has professional indemnity insurance in case things go wrong and you need redress against bad advice.
All individual RICS Surveyors have a membership number which can be checked by contacting RICS.0
