Steering wheel problems from toyota

I have a 2006 yaris which i took to a toyota garage to get 2 new front tyres as i mistakenly thought they do a good job.

When i booked the car in they told me there was 3 outstanding recalls on the car, one which involved the steering wheel.

Basically now ive got the car back the steering wheel is about 15 degrees to the left when i drive in a straight line. When the car is stationary, the steering wheel has alot more play then it use to, it is very loose and the there is also a sound it makes when you turn the wheel, like something is rubbing together. To top off, i regulary drive the same routes and having to turn the wheel i lot more then i use to to take the same corners.

Now the garage have been most unhelpful. I tried taking out to another toyota garage but of course its then you find out that they all work independantly. The other garage gave it the once over and said it was fine to drive but wanted £115 for a full wheel alignment and 'geo/ geometry check'??.

Im fustrated since no one wants to deal with it, and the garage are not prepared to put it in writting that the car is safe to drive, only that there are no obvious problems.

I paid £180 for 2 tyres. I dont know if is was the tyres or that they didnt put the steering wheel back on properly but what are my rights. Im 100% positive none of these problems existed until i left the garage and stupidly because ' its toyota' i didnt check the car properly when i left.

Can anyone help? I've only had the car 6 months and it was in excellent condition when i brought it from the car people. I find it abit of a coincidence these problems started when the sterring wheel was removed and tyres changed. In fact everyone seems obsessed with the fact i got new tyres. I thought you were meant to change your tyres BEFORE they went bald??

Any thoughts as to my rights?

Try going to an independent - hopefully you will have one near you. I would be surprised if it needed a full geometry - common for an IS200 but not a Yaris!

When you got your new tyres, did the tyre people say that they had worn unevenly or anything? If so, then yes, may be tracking is a problem.

I don't know what to suggest, you've tried two dealers. From what people tell me, Toyota customer services don't seem to really care as much as they used to...........
