Hi All,

Back in August I purchased Norton Internet Security 2009 (3 user version, 2 year Licence) via Ebay. I loaded it onto my laptop and desktop and have been very pleased with it....until today!

My laptop is fine - it's the computer I use daily. No subscription messages from Norton and still showing approx. 700 days remaining.
But my Desktop, which is only switched on every few weeks, has just come up with the message that my subscription is expired etc. etc.

I logged onto my Norton account which shows the 3 p.c. version purchased in Aug 2009, with 1 p.c. activation still remaining. However, it also says expired, which I don't understand since
(a) It's a 2-year product, and
(b) My Laptop still plays quite happily.

I tried reactivating my subscription on my desktop using the Product Key, but this made no difference.

Any ideas please? Many Thanks.

Brian

Are you looking at your current Norton licence?
Its possible that you have bought a dodgy version off Ebay.
Id suggest using Nortons Live Chat helpline, they sorted me out when I had a problem.

That gum you like is coming back in style.
  • I'd second that advise. By contacting them, it's the only way you'll get a resolution. However, if your norton account is also showing as expired, I suggest that it probably is a dodgy version you've been sold.

Thanks for the help. I initially did nothing as I didn't want to contact Norton in case I did have a dodgy copy off ebay. But last night my Laptop (which I use all the time) suffered the same problem. So I used the Norton Live Chat Helpline - I suspect they did something to my account at their end, before asking me to re-enter my Product Key. The laptop is now sorted, with 300 days subscription showing in my account.

    I'll try my desktop tonight...

But the Norton helpline works really well :T

    Many thanks.

Just click to check the subscription status on your desktop before contacting them. This will synchronise the subscription status, and if they've fixed it their end, it should fix it your end too.

    Here's the latest:
I realised that the number of days remaining in my subscription (300) was for a 1 year licence, yet mine was a 2 year licence that I activated in Aug 2009. When I initially activated it it showed 730 ish days.

So I've just tried Norton Live Chat again to sort the problem. Only to be told that they were asked to (and have) refunded the product......they won't tell me why they refunded it, or when. Or explain why they refunded the product after it's been activated and used for the last two months.......

It now remains to be seen if the 300 days subscription remaining suddenly drops to zero....

I've emailed the seller (who are still active on Ebay selling the same product) to explain what's going on. I'll keep you posted

    Brian

p.s. So beware people on Ebay selling Norton, even if they have good feedback and are based in the UK. If I don't get some sensible answers I'll be sure to post full details.........
  • I would never buy software off ebay, in fact, due to all the scams, I will not buy anything off ebay. I did buy Norton internet Security from savapoint.com. This was for a 1 year, 3 machine licence(I have 3 machines), and have had no problems. I have also just had a free upgrade to 2010 version, offered via email.

Just checked, NIS 2009 is now £17.99 + £2.99 p&p, for 3 machine licence. It say's for a limited time only. Hope this helps.

If you buy this and register it you can then get a free upgrade from Norton to NIS 2010 from the website.

Exactly the same thing has happened to me. I bought mine of the US E Bay site. Subscription now shows expired, when it should have the best part of 2yrs to run.
  • So it may be possible you bought a dodgy copy off ebay? It happens all the time. Ebay is not a reputable company when it comes to things like this. (Not that it's entirely ebay's fault I suppose, but that of the fraudsters who list on there. Still, ebay should sort it out.)

Have you gone back to Symantec yet?

It mystifies me why people pay for Norton in the first place when there are free, better anti virus solutions.
