Hi, this is my first posting and wondered if anyone had advice on what to do with an ants nest in my compost bin. Its been there for at least 2 months and I dont want to kill them. Will they help in the compost process or should I be getting them out?
Any advise would be welcome.0 -
Is your compost heap on the dry side? This is probably why they have set up home there. You can try turning the compost over a few times as they don't like to be disturbed and will probably decide to move out.A friend is someone who overlooks your broken fence and admires the flowers in your garden.0

Just turn your compost on a regular basis - speeds up the composting process and will deter your ants. If too dry, leave the top off your bin whilst we are getting all this rain or water with can/hose!!I'm mad!!!! :rotfl::jand celebrating everyday every year!!!0

Yep, the composting process breaks them down into lovely mulch!
Have you taken a look at the Greenfingered board? There's loads of useful gardening stuff on there, and a huuuuuuuuuuuuuge thread on the wonders of compost.
