Garden Sheds

I am looking to buy a garden shed, about 6ft x 8ft. I don't mind if it is wood or metal. Any recommendations?

All the DIY sheds are much the same in quality and price. Expect to pay around £200 for a timber one, don't know about metal.

If you are fairly hand you may be able to find a second timber shed from a DIY store. They invariably have damaged or incomplete stock. I once bought 4 6x4s and 1 7x5 for less than £100 from Wickes. We kept two 6x4s, made a 3rd one up from the other 2, sold that for £50 and then sold the 7x5 that needed some work to complete it for another £50.

In all 2 free sheds and the fuel was paid as well!

Metal sheds are very tricky to put up and impossible to do single-handed. They should also be anchored to the ground (you will need suitable fixings for concrete which might not come with the shed) and it should always be erected in one go and they are very prone to being bashed about in even slight breezes. They are not watertight on concrete as I found so you can't rely on that, I just hope I don't move and want to take mine with me in the near future - I would hate to have to put it together again!!

(mine was in the Argos sale, about 4ft by 10ft and £170)

We bought a plastic one from B & Q a couple of months ago, took 2 of us less than 2 hours to put up. Has double access doors so great for our bikes, only has small "windows" and a couple of vents, but has the plastic brackets for shelves.

I bought two Walton's shiplap 8x6 Apex double doors for £240 each delivered about 6 weeks ago from here - http://www.gardenbuildingsdirect.co.uk/ Cheapest I could find on t'net.

They were delivered inside a week and for the price they are OK sheds. I strengthened the doors as I thought them a little flimsy but it wasn't really needed for 'garden shed' use.
  • Have a look around your local shed company's site, the display models are often reduced.
