DRO through Baines and Ernst?

I'm a newbie on here but thought I'd ask for some advice as everyone seems to know so much!:money:

I've finally admitted that my debts are just too much and I can't continue in this situation! I have about £30 a month to live on after I've paid my bills and debts and the pressure is just getting to me!

I called National Debtline for advice and the lovely man I spoke to told me about a DRO, unfortunately, though I qualify the wait is 8 weeks with NDL and I really would like to get this sorted out ASAP and begin re-building my financial life (and re-educating myself too!)

I read that things can go quicker through B&E (maybe as they are a commercial company, not sure), can anyone advise their experience with them and possibly let me know if there is a direct line with them to discuss and get the ball rolling for a DRO.

Thanks so much!

Have you tried contacting CCCS or Payplan, i believe they help as well, and they are free.

Dark Convict CCCS et al all have waiting times for DRO's at the moment.

Princess a few posters have done that on this board and have had no problems.

I found that Baines&ernst were fabulous and very quick - make sure you get the DRO section though ( ask for Lawrence!), or they will try to sell you something else.
  • Hi Godiva

We have 3-4 staff working on our DRO at any one time, including Lawence, but contrary to what you wrote none of the DRO will try to "sell you something else."

The DRO team may not try to 'sell you something else' but I had a client who went to B&E initially for a DRO who was told she had too much income and offerred a DMP instead.

It was clear that there was not too much income for a DRO. Maybe other sections of B&E are not aware of the criteria ?

I have used B&E twice over the years, and have always found them excellent to deal with. Of course there is a charge for their servises, but I found them fair, and it was non comparable to relief I got from creditors.
  • HI B&E,

I think that's what Godiva500 was saying. If you ring and ask for the DRO team then they will deal with you - if you go through to the call centre then you may be "advised" to go anothe route?

She also said B&E were fabulous which I think is a really positive post and will help the OP to make her descision.

At the end of the day all these companies will try to "sell" you something you may not want or may not be in the frame of mind to argue with. Let's not get into a debate about it here as the OP was asking for help, but don't be to quick to jump on the deffensive. IYSWIM. Your opinouns will be valuable.

    Hi debt Dr.

The DRO team use the Money Advice Trust/BBA Common Financial statement and trigger figures to calculate expenditure as for a DRO the person must have less than £50 per month with which to repay their creditors. There have been remarkably few cases where a DRO is not possible because the person does not fit the criteria, mainly because most people who come to us for a DRO are referred through from organisations such as CAB. All staff in B&E are aware of DRO criteria so if a DRO was possible it would have been recommended. If you can send me details of the case concerned I will investigate ie dtae/time of call if possible but certainly name and postcode It is important that people do send me details or contact me if they have an issue as it is all too easy for malicious posters to try to undermine our service by making advserse generic comments.

Don't trust B & E. I handed over my money for them to put together my IVA, which was 2 months of debt repayments and failed to deliver. They mis-advised me that IVA was my best option, whereas in actual fact i was much better off going bankrupt. Once it got declined they couldn't give a !!!!!. My advice is stay away from this untrustworthy scum!
