gas rebate
Im with British Gas and have just checked my bill online. it says i am £457.00 in credit!!! Does anyone know if i can get or demand a refund as this seems an awful lot of money to be in credit by. I know that my gas consumption will rise in the Winter months but surely not by over £400!

When was money last taken out?
I pay by monthly DD and build up credit over 3 months so it looks like I'm about £250 in credit at the end of the quarter but then the bill comes and wipes most of it out.
Although I pay monthly I'm still only charged quarterly.
Over the summer as I don't use as much the amount I'm in credit creeps up to around £400 but over the winter it reduces.0 -
You dont need to demand it. You just write to them and ask for it nicelymake the most of it, we are only here for the weekend.
and we will never, ever return.0 -

Welcome to the forum.
As stated above, your Direct debit payments are credited to your account each month, but the account is only debited quarterly.
So if you look on-line you can get a totally false picture.
An example to illustrate:
Assume you pay £100 a month on the first of each month.
You were, say, £50 in credit with your last bill on 07 July. On 01 August your account will show £150 in credit, 01 Sep £250 in credit, and 01 Oct £350 in credit.
Therefore if you look on line today you are £350 in credit. However on 07 Oct you get a bill of £270 debited and you are now only £80 in credit.
So the only time you get a true picture of your account is when your bill is debited.0
