Cold Calling

Options
It is car insurance renewal time again. This year I have followed Martin's full advice and did all the screen scrappers in his recommended order. As we have had a claim in the last five years I entered the details. The claim was not our fault.

I was very surprised to receive a phone call from a no win no fee company checking if we had settled the claim.

Does anyone know if these companies pass on this type of information, and if so what companies do this. I believe this is a misuse of private information. I do receive promotional emails from the screen scrapper companies from time to time and I find this inevitable and it does not bother me.
regards

Edward

You need to check the boxes you tick and untick when using the comparison websites.

They have another revenue stream of selling on customers data to third parties unless you opt out or opt in.

By agreeing to receive promotional e-mails you have probably agreed to accepting letters and phone calls from their selected partners/whoever they want to pass your details to.

Never give your real phone or address details on these comparison sites, they will sell them to all and sundery. All they need to know is your postcode. Plus tel no. 01234567890 i always find useful (with apologies to anybody who's got that number...)

They are designed to try and catch you out. Frequently they're a couple of boxes, one to tick if you want to opt of email. Another one to untick not to receive phone calls etc. As I said just give, them rubbish emails/ tel. numbers & they can mail & ring as much as they like...

I never realised they sold the data of non fault claims on to claims management companies, its very sneaky but I can see they would find the data very helpful and must pick up the odd claim from it

But even then, reading is hardly a superpower is it? I agree entirely that companies often try to catch out people in this manner, but it's nothing that a moderate amount of vigilance can't stop.
