Asda and newly released books

I love books, I buy a lot on the day of release and was looking forward to two new ones today, Unseen Academicals from Terry Pratchett and The Burning Lands from Bernard Cornwell. Trotted off down to Asda but couldn't see them on the newly released stand, found someone and asked about where I owuld find them. Apparently they have books in their store room and will get round to putting them out later but they can't tell me if they have the two titles I want. Instead the book staff were busy tidying the cheap Mills and Boons books.

It seems a very odd way to get a hold in the popular book market to not actually bother selling newly released books.

Wherever possible you should support proper bookshops, even if they are chains like Waterstones.

My fear is that these outlets for book could be driven out of business, leaving supermarkets to dominate the market, resulting in the lack of choice.

Which is just what all bookshops will be like after supermarkets' loss-leaders have driven the independents into ruin and destroyed the market.

Still - so long as we can pick up some below-cost-price, heavily-marketed, ghostwritten sh!te from this year's X-Factor winner in time for Christmas, that's ok then.......

I think often its an outside company that actually does the books and CD's so they are delivered to the store but its not actually Asda staff that put them out. Amazon and Play both have most new releases half price. You can get cashback on play as well!

Correct - Tesco staff won't be putting them out, at least, not in Asda :p

Well you know what I mean anyway. Asda, Tesco they all merge into one big overlit shed.
  • I would like to shop at waterstones et al however when asda can shift The Lost Symbol for £5 - im going to go there and i am not the biggest fan of asda!
