Ebay price does NOT include VAT!!!!

Hi everyone, am looking for a camera on Ebay and found this- :110439204026
I Emailed the seller to ask if I could have a VAT receipt.
He said no and added that the price did not include VAT!!!!!
Surely all Ebay prices include VAT? Will he add it later?

I'm not an ebayer but going to apply general VAT rules to the issue.

Companies have to register for VAT is their taxable supplies are greater than 67K in any 12 month period and it's optional if you fall under than that. So if your seller is not VAT registered there will be not be any VAT charged on the goods therefore no VAT receipt as no VAT to claim back. I'm assuming that VAT registered companies who sell on ebay will include VAT and it will be shown in the price you see and you will be able to get a VAT receipt.

Maybe an ebayer can come in and help some more.

I never heard this in my life. The final price you pay inculdes VAT. I would avoid this seller!

VAT can only be charged and a VAT receipt given if a trader is VAT registered as pir has said (whether he should have registered and hasn't is a separate issue).

If he has said that there is no VAT then it sounds like he is probably not VAT registered. If that's the case then he would not be able to charge VAT on his sales and so cannot add VAT to the purchase price if you buy it. However, you cannot get a VAT receipt either.

I have in the past (althought not for a while) seen listings that have T&Cs that state VAT will be added to the final price.

You either need to get clear with him whether or not he is VAT registered and so whether he will charge VAT on top (I would have thought not) or alternatively use a different seller!

Good post. I can clarify the point above; it's no longer permitted on eBay to add VAT after purchase.

It may seem a lot but the retail is £340 and look at the spec, nothing touches it at the price according to various reviews. Just been upgraded to SX20 is which has a few improvements and is over £400, same lens and picture quality.
