Cheap Dublin Car Hire

Options
I am flying to Dublin in January for the Sat/Sun weekend and was wondering whether it is cheaper to get a taxi to/from the airport or hire a car so that we are a bit more 'free' in where and when we go where we want to.

Can anyone please advise which is the best option and also if hiring a car, which company to use because I usually do it through the travel agent and this time we are DIY-ers and haven't got the foggiest! Much appreciated! :p

I'd probably not hire a car as you'll probably be drinking too much to use it.

I also hated irish hire car companies (went to Shannon) as they were worse than the spanish companies for the fuel charges and insurance stuff.

Hi We used irish car rentals when we were there in the summer and found them to be very good, Although we paid by credit card (as you usually have to) they did have the option topay by debit card. and the car was actually supplied via Europcar.

Check out the threads on Trip Advisor (there are LOTS of them ) on this particular topic ....driving in Dublin is not for the faint hearted !

but if you do decide to go for it then make sure you are well insured and take out SCDW.

Also very expensive at the moment to hire cars in Ireland .
