Car insurance claim- minor damage (not my fault)

The stupid thing is that I don’t have details of her insurance company. I have her name and address- we were both a bit shaken up and didn’t really know what to do (never been in an accident before). We swapped names and addresses, but I didn’t realise until later on that we should also have swapped insurance details. I guess this might make a difference to me making a claim or not (and I will know in future if it ever happens again!)

How long do you think would be reasonable to wait for a reply? It’s not a huge amount of time, but I would have expected an acknowledgement in that time, even if it took her a bit longer to pay.

Maybe she realises that we didn’t swap all the details that we should have and that it will make it difficult (impossible?) to pursue a claim. Or maybe the letter has been lost in the post?! I’m starting to wonder if I should put the whole thing down to experience. I’m just so annoyed with myself- I would have been debt-free this month if it wasn’t for the repairs (the reason I found this site to begin with!)

I will certainly get it in writing from the insurers, if it is possible to pursue a claim with the lack of details.

Correspondence over insurance claims can take months! The third party may have (correctly, as advised in her policy) deliberately not answered your letter, but passed it on to their insurer to deal with.
