Tesco 'substituted items' policy

Keep an eye on your tesco home delivery bills - the Tesco delivery man told me that Mr T was changing the policy on charging for substituted items - he said that they currently charge the going rate for a substituted item but under their new policy, if the item you order is £2 and the substitute is worth £6, you'll only be charged £2 (if the item is cheaper, then they'll charge the cheaper price).
I don't know when it will start (or how long it will last!) but they'll probably have something in the T's and C's.

Its started(Lancashire). My shopping 2 weeks ago had substituted items but was only charged the original ordered price.(It's about time! I kept getting substitutions that were way more expensive).Last week my order came-surprise surprise-no substitutions!:hello: SHARING THE LOVE (OF A BARGAIN) x0

I think its head office's way of giving stores a boot up the bum and making them sort out availability in store. Its now more in the stores interest to make sure you can get what you want, otherwise the difference gets charged to their waste budget.0

My tesco have sent me some truly mental (and very expensive) substitutions.
About time they did this!Mum of several with a twisted sense of humour and a laundry obsession:o

Finally Tesco are doing what Asda delivery has always done, maybe now they will start turning up on time and actually bring all of your shopping order :rolleyes:I’m a Senior Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on Competitions Time, Shopping & Freebies boards, Employment, Jobseeking & Training boards If you need any help on these boards, do let me know. Aren't they now more likely to substitute Value or Discount Brand items though?0

I don't like the substitutions policy - sometimes they send things that are not appropriate- such as something with nuts in to repalce something that didn't have nuts in, or a strong curry in place of a mild one.
My mum was cross because she order a selction of vegatable items, and some of the substtitues where not vegatarian to her standards (not sure what they were specifically, but stuff she doesn;t allow herself to eat, anyway.)
So even if something IS higher price and you get it for a lower price, it might not be what you want.0 -

If you don't like the subs then you can individually mark..NO SUBSTITUTE on the appropriate line when you place your shopping. Also all substitutes and unusually short coded products should be delivered in a blue bag for easy retrieval..refuse anything you don't want.

I had a delivery last week that had the price match for substitutions and it is very confusing.
For a start they do not price match the offers that you may have chosen and this may not be apparent at the door as it looks like they have price matched and if you cannot remember the offer it does go in Tesco's favour.
My main gripe is that if you are given a substitue for the orignal product and the new product is on offer - Tesco pickers will not give you that offer.
I had my BOGOF Yeo Valley yoghurts substituted for Tesco brand yoghurts. These were on 3 for 2 at the moment but as I only requested 2 that is all they picked for me!! I called and asked where my other "free" pack where only to be told we would not pick up 3 as you only asked for 2!
I stated that as with all other subs if I do not want the item then I should be given the chance to say no at the door and as technically they have left a pack behind that they were infact making a profit from me! Plus I had paid for the delivery!
This was just one of the many errors that they made - including "price matching" my corn on the cob on offer at 4 for 1 pound or 69p each. They sent 2 and then another pack of plastic wrapped corn on the cob. For something that should have cost 1pound in total Tesco wanted to charge me 2.38!.
Price Match difference also did not go on and had to get this refunded manually as well!
Won't be going back to Tesco as "every little helps" seems only to be in Mr T's favour!0
