ps2 problems

my ps2 is about 5 years old and is used mostly as a dvd player but recently it has started jumping a bit and skipping and even not being able to read some dvd's or ps2 games when the disc does not appear dirty or scratched. is my ps2 on the way out?

It may be that the problem is that the laser eye is covered in grease from finger tips.

    Unplug Station

For the Older slide drawer fronted PS2

Clean the laser eye, just flip the staion over on its back and lever out the feet with a tiny screwdriver and under the feet (blanks) are other screws that hold it all together, then gently prize apart PS2 then remove laser eye guard I think thats 4 screws (just go careful when taking apart as not to damage the front assembly IDE ribbon cable held down with white tape) now when the laser eye is exposed clean with a microfibe cloth and hardly any pressure.

I have sucessfully done the above if you are worried that you may cause damage to your console I advise not to carry out the above procedure.
