Has anybody tried Moneysupermarket? They advise me the same supplier as energyhelpline and promise 30 cashback instead of 15 but somehow do not seem as reliable...0

Call Scottish Power and ask them your annual consumption of gas and electricity in kilowatt hours.
Then put those figures in to a comparison site,as mentioned above, and it should show the cheapest option.
When you have found the cheapest option click on the details and see if you are 'tied in' for 12 months or so and if there are any penalties should you wish to leave to change supplier.
The direct debits are based on what the supplier believes will be your annual consumption. If they are set too high initially you will be in credit. You could then lower the amount paid per month or just leave the credit where it is which will probably cover winter months.
Obviously with a cheaper supplier your direct debits should be less than a supplier further down the comparison table.
When looking at the comparison sites do check dual fuel from the same supplier and obtaining gas/elec from different suppliers. You will see these options at the top of the comparison sites.
Hope the explanation has helped a little.0 -
That's right Chrisski.. They usally overestimate a bit but then you get your money back, or it goes towards covering months where the expenses are higher. They get "surplus" money for a while and you get to spread your bills, but direct debit is the cheapest option. HTH0
