3.07 GHz, 448 MB of RAM, this is what my new pc has can't remember the old one's specs but I'm sure it was less but I am finding this one slower, should it be?
Thanks
Thanks

It all depends on what you're running on both machines. 448Mb RAM isn't a huge amount these days, so any memory intensive apps are going to swallow it up quite quickly.
In addition, you may have onboard graphics on this machine, and a graphics card on the old machine. If this is the case, then you have to allow for the graphics usage taking a bite out of that as well.
More details of OS, CPU on both machines and RAM on both, and any graphics boards (AGP/PCI or onboard shared) would help to pinpoint any issues.0 -
bingo bango sorry I don't know how to get that info. I can't remember my old specs and can't get into the pc. I wiped windows 98 and can't get it back on so eveything's locked away in there forever

Who sells these p.c's with 3gig odd CPU's but only 400mb of RAM. Makes me laff!0

Pity...would have been useful.
In light of this fact, I would suggest that you try downloading a benchmarking programme, (I'm at work, so don't have a link, but I'm sure there is one listed in a sticky at the start of the thread, or someone will be along soon with a decent one!), and running it. This will tell you all sorts of info, such as how fast your CPU will perform 2D and 3D graphics apps, and then compare this to well known processors and systems. This will at least let you see if your machine is running at a greatly reduced speed compared to it's peers.
If this is the case, then we can start looking for possible causes.0 -

Your newer machine should be quicker. But it all depends what software you have.
You may of found that Windows 98 ran faster than XP, this is because XP needs better specs than 98 to run. Anti-Virus can slow down a machine quite badly, so choose carefuly. Then just make sure you dont install nasty software that u'll never use, if you already have uninstall them, do it all through add/remove progs...
Scan hard drives for errors, defrag, use ccleaner to remove .tmp files etc. Make sure your hard drive has plenty of free space left.0 -

And on that note.....why is there only 448Mb
Unless there's 64Mb onboard graphics. That would certainly explain a few things.0 -

Yeh, most likely.
If you download the everest program, install it. Open it, expand the computer tree, click summary, wait for couple seconds, click report, drag down to Quick report - summary, scroll to right, click Plain Text.
It will give you a report like this that you can copy and paste to these forums:-
