Tried to use the code on the trainline and it didn't work, but was quite happy to charge me £1.50 extra. I'm now suspecting that if you use a railcard or buy a cheap fare, the code is invalid.

I've just bought tickets for 1 adult & 3 kids from Peterborough to Inverness. GNER4 price was £25.50 for adult and about £7.50 for each kid, which at £48 or thereabouts is a bargain anyway. I used First Scotrail's web-page, which doesn't charge extra.

    Hi all,
Travelling Oxford-Newcastle, 22 July (could leave 21 July evening) and back on 23 July.
Cheapest ticket I can find so far is £63.65 with a railcard. EEK.

    Can anyone help?

Misskool, not the quickest way but £17:15 saver return, Oxford to London Kings Cross, then Kings X-Newcastle £10 single and Newc-Kings X £18.50. ( £45.15 total) From nationalrail.co.uk, put in your journey from Lon- Newc as a return trip, return fares will be shown, just above these fares is a "singles from £10" box, check this for the above fares. With the above fares you have to catch the train you booked so no flexibility, unlike the saver return which is valid on any train, hope that makes sense!!

hi misskool, not sure exactly how to find the cheaper bargains (except for luck or some kind people here who maybe work in the train sector) but it maybe the case to look at least 3 or 4 days ahead and also to look for travel times at around noon. this is just a geuss based on the kind responses i got above but really hope its helpful!

I know this won't help the current enquiry but watch out for the Virgin megatrain deals coming out soon. Travel from £1!! Hope it helps others.
