Credit File Confusion....

Argh!!!
I'm having a few problems, well more of a mad moment, with my credit reports! I thought it would be easier to start a new thread, than to add to my existing one, else it would get a little confusing to follow (or maybe that's just me!).
Anyway...in my bid to clear my debts, I registered on "Checkmyfile.com" and got my report from the 3 agencies, to make it easier for you all to understand, i'm just going to post details below, with comments etc, and hope that somebody lurking on these boards can help me to make some sense of what's going on.....(and i'm sulking now, as I've written this twice, and went to post, except it timed out and I lost it!!)

I will have to post the details from Equifax next, as I ran out of charactors, but basically, does anyone know why they are showing as £0 balances when I haven't paid them and why they haven't come off yet..or when they are likely too? I am trying desperately to improve my credit rating, but I don't know how to start...lol...Right, page 2 to follow shortly

Crikey, that's enough reading to send anyone to sleep! I am so sorry for the war and peace threads, just sooo confused, am hoping there is somebody a lot more knowledgeable than myself on here...
Basically, the accounts showing as closed with no balances - should they be on there? I don't want to get chased for them in the future, so should I try and find out who owns them and pay them off?
The Accounts that have been closed with an amount owing - obviously I need to pay these off somehow...
All the accounts which are showing as £0 balance, I don't understand what these are...I thought I owed huge amounts of cash, but now I'm not sure I do (which can only be a good thing), but doesn't explain why my credit rating is appalling...I can't even get HP in Curry's for new appliances
I really appreciate any help anybody can give on this one, I know its a bit of a long one.....xx0 -
Reposting so this is keep under all the info.
The Lowell and Capquest accounts i believe are debt collectors from what i have read on these forums. Not sure if that helps you.
With regards to what is on your credit report. If it is correct, it will remain on their for 6 years, such as bankruptcy, defaults on missed payments, CCJ's etc.
I believe closed accounts stay for 6 years as well.
The balance may show as £0 if the account is still open i believe, but you could request these companies to close the account and update the record, by using the data controller register, you should be able to find the relevant contact addresses of creditors, and get them to look into their accounts and update the record on your credit file.
Possible letters to look at about removal/updating of Credit report/defaults.

Hi Dark Convict...
Thank you, I will have a look at that link tomorrow when i get to work) Yeah, i've had a lot of correspondance from Lowell before, I think a lot of companies like to sell their debts onto them, which is nice! I think I need to try and find out or work out who owns the other debts (mainly from the Equifax report) and write/contact them to ask if they can update their records...unless anybody knows of any other way?
I had thought about contacting Experian etc directly, but am assuming they would have to check with the relevant company anyway?
Right, off to bed - night all0 -
You will need to contact the companies yourself to chase them up. Basically ask for an update on your account, ask how / where it stands etc.
As to the link, you will need to register for free. Not sure if they will help as im sure there is a letter around here somewhere about getting a creditor to update their record they have on you.Although no trees were harmed during the creation of this post, a large number of electrons were greatly inconvenienced.

Have just read your War and Peace stuff.
usually the £0 balances are if the card has been stolen or something similar. My credit file lists 30+ creditors but actually its a lot less, as I had my purse stolen twice so each time 4 cards were renewed. Also if any are passed to DCA's they will be listed more than once.
It often takes a while for satisfied balances to show, if you miss a month they put it on straight away, but pay up and they're not that quick!
Accounts closed with balances may well have been passed to DCA's.Debts at LBM - Mortgages £128497 - non mortgage £27497 Debt now £[STRIKE]114150[/STRIKE][STRIKE]109032[/STRIKE] 64300 (mortgage) Credit cards left 0
"The days pass so fast, let's try to make each one better than the last"0 -
If something is closed or settled it remains on your file for I think it's 6 years - that means a default will stay on your account for 6 years from the default date. Paying it off will change it to "settled" which will help your score (although not much looking at them!)
The ones you don't think you have paid off but are showing as settled - chances are they have been sold to DCAs - if they are not statute barred they can and most likely WILL come bite you at some point...
You may not on the face of it owe huge sums of cash - but your credit file is appalling - I'm not suprised you can't get an HP agreement. The creditor would take ONE look and see you haven't been able to manage your finances and rightly determine you present a huge risk and refuse. As a point of comparison my Experian score is over 950 and I have been turned down for 0% cards before now with an income in excess of £35k and no late payments, defaults or adverse credit history in the last 10 years.
Accounts showing as outstanding balances that you have paid off you can ask them to correct, accounts you are quetioning are in fact yours you can request they contact the creditor and get them to confirm it's yours and if they can't then they can get taken off - details for the process is on each agency's FAQditto any showing on the same agency report twice.
If you want to start rebuilding your credit worthiness then start by paying off all the defaults and CCJs - then get a credit card (any will do!) and spend a little each month but PAY IT OFF!!! Preferably the second the balance shows... This will prove to creditors that you can manage money and manage repaying debts and it's this that they will be looking for in future.DFW Nerd #025DFW no more!
