Was the laptop plugged in to a wall socket??

Did it turn off during the storm??

When did the problem first happen??

How far into the boot sequence does it get???

    Any start up bleeps???

Was it also plugged in to the telephone line? Many people forget to unplug modems, etc., during electrical storms and this can often be the source of damage to computers.

If it was just plugged into the power socket, it's extremely unlikely to have received damage, the power supply acts like a UPS for protection, so whilst it might have blown that, damage to the laptop from the power lead would be very unlikely.

However if the modem/broadband link was connected to the phone socket, you are far more likely to have a machine damaged from a strike near to a phone line, and this would directly fry the laptop, unless you had a protection filter on the line before it entered the computer...
