Lost deeds Mortgage extension over and additional fees

We have had an absolute nightmare getting our house sorted, to cut a very long story down we made an offer on house we are buying in early March which was accepted, everything going ok but as time dragged into June we thought something was wrong and were told the deeds for the property we are buying had been lost, people buying ours were getting married soon and needed to be in, so as house we are buying is empty we asked to Rent it while they found the deeds.
We moved in on 9th June and it still isnt ours, turns out Barclays who the vendor had insisted from day one had the deeds indeed did, during the delay the mortgage offer ran out and was extended for another month, the paperwork is now finally going through and it looks like it may only be a week or two, but I got a call from the estate agent today saying the mortgage plan we originally had has been withdrawn (a 90% 8 year mortgage) and although we have been accepted on our old details they will need another £999 Arrangement fee?
We are now out of pocket 4 months rent (and another if things arent sorted within next week.
A second £999 Arrangement fee
And also £325 for searches as the original HIp searches were out of date.
All these because someone had lost the deeds, do we have any cause for claiming some of the monies back, I have not paid the Arrangement fee yet but this has dragged on so long it might be easier to get the house sorted and then try for monies back?

I would be asking the vendor to meet my additional costs and hope to settle on a 50/50 split. It would be difficult to get any recompense retrospectively and I would not complete until I had an agreement."A nation's greatness is measured by how it treats its weakest members." ~ Mahatma Gandhi

Well to update tale we finally bit the bullet and brought the house it was November before everything was sorted, so we have let dust settle and decided to complain to Barclays about being out of pocket trhough no Fault of our own, we confirmed with both the old Vnedor and also the estate agent that all our facts were correct and duly sent off letter last month.
We have been staggered by the response from Barclays complaints team, first they say that they sent deeds over within a couple of days (albeit admitting there had been a hold up at the bank end? surely thats what we were complaining about and the fact it was the complaints dept that actual accept it was them that handed over the deeds must somehow show it had got to them before the old vendor got her deeds?)
But the most staggering comment was that in there opinion if we found ourselves in that position then there were other avenues open to namely looking for another property...................
Needless to say I have spoken with all concerned again and they have quite clearly stated that the old vendor was almost camped out at Barclays trying to get the deeds and they had even lost details of her deceased husband ever being on the mortgage reducing her to tears on a number of occassions, do I keep trying with Barclays or just uct them out and as others have suggested go straight to the Ombudsman?0 -
It's not you that Barclays messed about so you have no claim against them: it is the vendor who has the claim against the lender and she should have put in her written complaint at the time. Once again what does your conveyancing solicitor have to say about the situation?Declutterbug-in-progress.⭐️⭐️⭐️ ⭐️⭐️0
