Gas used by cooker

I am on the verge of switching and have checked my consumption. I seem to be using on average 12 kwh of gas per day (=£2.48) and think my meter is wrong.

I live alone and cook at most one meal by gas per day, the gas fire or central heating are seldom on, everything else is electric. How much gas does a single ring about 75mm dia burn (I can't find this on an internet search)? Do you think my meter may be overreading?

How do you get from 12kWh to £2.48? That gives a rate of over 20 pence per kWh. I don't know of any tariffs anywhere near that high. Gas is usually more in the range of 5-8 pence per kWh.

You are right, I was misreading something, too many bits of paper about, but while correct amount is now less in cash terms it was the kWh figure that surprised me rather than the cash which I only calculated to see the effect.

What calculation did you perform to get to 12Kwh?

Have you a metric or an imperial gas meter for example as the calculation is different in each case?
That gum you like is coming back in style.

Thanks all, I think I have found the problem. A detailed analysis shows one month where I had relatives staying some of the time and this has boosted the bill - it ran at 66kwh per day that month. I don't know what they were doing as they weren't in the house during the day. I'm sure I couldn't burn that much if I tried.

Does anyone have any ideas on how long a 2 bed flat heating system would need to be on to use that much?
