What to buy a 5 year old boy who is becoming a big brother?

Hi, I hope I've put this in the right place! I'd like to pick your brains please...
My friend is having a baby girl. She already has a five year boy. I'd like to get the five year old a little present when the baby is born but the only thing I know about kids and toys is that generally the noiser and messier the better but obviously that isn't such a good idea with a new baby!
So, I'd like a present that is less than £10 (ideally around £5), is postable and that he's likely to like and won't cause agro for the parents. I want him to open something rather than money because his baby sister is getting loads of presents to open. All I know is that he likes trains and boy things like that! (Friend and I are just getting to re-know each other again after a long time so I don't know him at all).
I've got a lovely little card that says congratualtions on becoming a big brother, I just need a present with it! Any suggestions greatfully received!

Go to Tesco/ASDA/Sainsburys into the toy section and pick up an action figure. My four year old is obsessed with Ben 10 and you can get figures for around a fiver. There'll also be Transformers, Toy Story, Cars etc etc to choose from.0

How about a football can not go wrong with that and they are usually under a fiver.0

Ah - you're really sweet!
At aged 5, a good gift to get is Knex
It's easier than Lego and you can free build quite well: Half price at Toys r Us plus it's not too heavy to post

Is one on offer.
Or this one looks really cool (shop around though Argos also stock as do Amazon):

Because by then you've blown your chances. That's it."0 -
In fact, they all look cool - don't be fooled by the aged 3 thing - it's more than suitable for a 5 year old.
Here's the link to all of it:

I don't think I'd be able to prise the Knex from my husband!
But I do like the look of them... will pop to the shop tomorrow and see if they'll be postable because the delivery charge is too much.
Thanks everyone! I wouldn't have thought of any of those.Trying hard to remember... "Annual income twenty pounds, annual expenditure nineteen nineteen and six, result happiness. Annual income twenty pounds, annual expenditure twenty pounds ought and six, result misery." David Coperfield

Hi,
What about getting him this book to go with your lovely card? It's called 'My New Baby and Me' and it's a record book for older siblings to write and draw in all about their baby brother or sister. i bought it for my friend's 4 year old and he loves it and she says it was a lovely way of making him feel really involved when new baby arrived. I bought it with a cheapy disposible camera for him to take his own pics to stick them in too.

It's £7.95 with free delivery.

When my friend had her baby I got her daughter then 3 a disposable camera that only she was allowed to use to take pics of the baby and my friend said it made a huge difference with 3 yr old accepting new baby. She was always proudly showing family and friends the pics of new baby that she had taken.0

I usually do this too, and also put a small childs photo album , blue or pink (new baby) and 3 £1 coins to help towards developing.
Then they get to take the photos themselves, go to the shop, pay, put them in their album.MollyJoe0 -
