Where can i get an old car?
Hi Moneysavers,
I am Tom, 19. We have about 30 acres of land in the family, in which me and my friends often go field racing in, at the weekend.
I am trying to get hold of an old car which is no use to anyone and is ready for the scrap yard (for no, or very little money). The idea being we enjoy it for the last miles of its life, and when it dies we scrap it.
I am having trouble finding such a vehicle and so have decided to turn to the infinite wisdom of the MoneySaving Forum.
Any suggestions or even donations warmly welcomed.
Best regards,
Tom

im sure there will be plenty of good runners going to scrap yard to be dismantled,it might be worth a visit to your local scrappy and see if you could strike some kind of deal with them. i know all cars in the scrappage scheme should be officially scrapped but there may be something they could do....work permit granted!0

Thanks for that, yes all scrappage scheme cars do legally have to be scrapped.
Maybe a scrap yard would let me have a car, not sure how much they would want for one though.
Thanks again, Tom0 -
Just keep an eye out on ebay and the local yellow free ads.“Quis custodiet ipsos custodes?”

Hi,
Thanks, i will do. Do cars often go for next to nothing on ebay (£20).
The cheapest ive found so far in my area (Northampton) is £50.
Thanks for all your ideas, keep them comming!!!
Thanks, Tom0 -
You sometimes see old cars just sitting on someones path or garden, the scrap yard may want to charge to pick it up and take away, so just keep an eye out as you drive around then knock and ask when you see one.Liverpool is one of the wonders of Britain,
What it may grow to in time, I know not what.

The cheapest car we get in at work is around the £100 mark as we will get just over that for scrap...0

Buy a copy of Classic Car Weekly. Plenty of ads for 'old bangers' going cheap that people are trying to get rid of."You were only supposed to blow the bl**dy doors off!!"0

My local car breaker pays £70 and collects the car for that, so I doubt anyone is going to give one away for £20.0

Thanks for all your help. I will keep looking but no joy as of yet. Hopefully somewhere will crop up.
I did think about trying to repeat what top gear did a few years back. Clarkson bought an old volvo from a car garage, it was a part exchanged vehicle and the were just going to get it taken away so they let him buy it for a £1!
Not sure if anyone has had a success with this before?
Thanks Tom0
