  • Maple syrup is really expensive, so I would certainly give it a try with golden syrup - I regularly substitute what I've got in for what the posh recipes say and it usually works out perfectly ok. Sometimes I even prefer my own cheapie version.

Do you have any stem ginger? The syrup that comes in is a good substitute for maple syrup - gives a nice gingery tang :D

They would be nice with honey instead of maple syrup.

  • I have honey which needs using up I'll try that thanks
  • I was going to suggest honey too. I think golden syrup wouldn't taste quite right.

I'm doing ribs on Saturday and my recipe calls for redcurrant jelly or other fruit jelly -can't remeber offhand whether there is something else sweet and sticky in it.

  • I buy a bottle of maple flavoured golden syrup. I can't think exactly what it is called, but it is very nice and about £1.50. Real maple syrup is too expensive for me.

They sometimes have it in Lidl at a "reasonablish" price - still expensive though. The stem ginger syrup sounds really delish.
