SFT, there's an orange button at the top of the right hand page and when you click on it each day, there's a new book which you can get for 'free' (just pay P&P). I only found it on another thread yesterday, not sure if it's any good yet...today's is another D&D is seems.
Hm , not happy as my scratchcard account has been shut down for 'bonus abuse'. Anyone had this happen to them? I don't play the bingo but do play PSS on there so can't see they're justified? Have asked for further explanation so will let you know...but be warned, the days of free scratchcards could be over too
Here's the response:
We can confirm that you are not eligible for this money, as you have not made any deposits over a year. And when you deposited you made a withdrawal back to your bank account and did not played with the real money. You also made several withdrawals playing free scratch cards, which is called bonus abuse. And your account will be closed which will not be reopened.
Pants!
In other news, I read an article yesterday which suggests that rice prices are expected to go up again, as India has to import some herself this year due to bad weather and harvests. This gives Thailand etc greater play with the global price...no idea when this will happen but just to be aware. The 1,000 Day Challenge:Feb 16, 2016500/30,000

Oh BAILS, NO! I'm really sorry about the scratch cards thing and hope you can get around it. Having researched so many of these things over the past, I am always dubious and tend to take the 'make the most of it whilst you can' approach. Could you try playing through a percentage of the cash to see if it triggers the account into becoming active again? I try to play through a few penny games every so often to keep my accounts open.
Managed to get washing hung out and dried this morning :jso I'm going to try getting another load done whilst it's dry and windy. Temperature seems to have dropped, though, so my frozen chicken taken out freezer yesterday morning hasn't defrosted yet! I guess it'll be fish for tea tonight. The fire will need to be lit to take the chill off the air and that'll be another day passed without need for switching on the storage heaters. :T Must go do my weekly meter read and update imeasure now.
My third '£1000 in 100 days' challenge has now ended. Over the full year to date, I managed to raise an extra £1,961.52 I know that it's well short of £3,000 but it just goes to show how much extra would previously have been frittered away without noticing it coming or going.Still hoping to gain a few more free pennies by way of the scratchies and cashback site but won't hold my breath, in the wake of what Bails has just revealed.

UPDATE - Sorry if this is old news but did anyone know Vict0ria wines, Thresher$, Hadd0ws and whatever else the company owns has gone into administration? News says, "The stores will be open for business as usual, though any gift vouchers that have been issued will no longer be honoured and corporate services such as glass hire and events planning have been suspended.."
Sounds like the 'recession' is still taking its toll and we'll need to stretch our shoestring budgets even further, especially if staple foodstuffs are going to start escalating in price as well.I reserve the right not to spend.

Hi edaniels
I have the little C00kw0rks SC and haven't found any cut of meat that it doesn't cook well. Even a ham bone slow cooked can produce a great soup stock followed by a couple of decent meals of tasty meat, if I could find a beef hock locally then I'd be more than willing to try that, too.
Just popping on to see what others think about the following 'news' item. It's appeared on a site called p0pwallet and I'm afraid that it's painting us in a very bad light. See what you think.
"...the thin line between being mean and being thrifty.
One is clever and respectable. The other is nasty and unacceptable. So which one are you?
Signs thrift has turned into meanness include:
1) You say no to any spending before considering it - even when it's pennies.
2) You are happy to let others suffer in order to save cash - cheap toilet paper anyone?
3) You start going to extraordinary lengths to save very small amounts of money.
4) You start getting very angry about other people's spending habits.
5) You only ever buy anything if you have a voucher.
6) The price isn't just the first consideration, it's the only one.
7) Parting with money actually becomes physically painful.
8) You start to associate generosity with waste.
9) You stop giving Christmas presents.
10) You find yourself using the phrase Bah Humbug.
The above is in response to how the Germans portray the Scots, but until now, I wasn't even aware of their associating anything cheap with us, let alone their offending the SNP folks. Shows how much I know about anything remotely European!I reserve the right not to spend.
The less I spend, the more I can afford.

I think it's a lot of rubbish myself nyk, especially the german mention. Our very own thriftylass is of German descent if I remember correctly.
That's just the ramblings of some spendthrift with nothing better to do with their time.;) I wonder if they would think again if they found themselves skint because they've spent all of their cash on their friends (who have mysteriously disappeared). I'll step away from the soapbox now.:rotfl:
Bottom line is, it's nobody's business how another person goes about their day to day living as long as they are not hurting anyone else. Will check in later. xx0 -
None of you are mean. My experience of mean people is that they are often mean natured aswell as mean with their money. Someone who is mean is someone who expects other people to subsidise them eg they're takers not givers whether that be financially or emotionally or they are not willing to spend money on the essentials or will spend money on themselves but not their loved ones. The one overwhelming thing that always come across in this thread is the generosity of spirit displayed. You can't all help being naturally gifted when it comes to managing your money and making it work for you:D
