Hi gang,
Thriftylass, I am really sorry to hear your news. I am thinking of you and your family. xx
Well, mum did not have anything out of the freezer for dinner and they suggested a takeaway. I had the chippy last night and did not want anything like that again, and as you know, they say I am going tight (maybe I am):rotfl:
I ended up taking mum and dad down to the local carvery. I have driven past it loads of times and it is always packed. I also remembered that shaz mentioned she had been to one and it cost £3.50. It must be the same company, cause that's how much mine was a head, it was really nice! My dad said he enjoyed it and at the end of the day, it is food and does the same job that a fancy place does, and he is right. It came to £14.35 with drinks, the chippy cost about the same last night for a special fish, hamburger supper, gravy and a single chicken (for me, my mum and sam had the chicken). I will be back there, that's for sure! Dead handy if you don't have anything for dinner and not too expensive.
I'm having an early night tonight as I am going to Blackpool tomorrow with work.
Will check in later. xx0 -

Thrifty, sending you and your bf lots of love and hugs. Thinking of you xxx
Taka, it's great that you want to continue improving your living space but don't put unnecessary pressure on yourself to host Christmas again, unless you want to. Hope you find your jewellery making tools!
Just heard that my best friend is apparently moving to Cyprus! From a selfish point of view this isbut I guess it means lots of trips there
Things progressing well with the job stuff - application form and job spec winging their way to me this weekend and speaking to the Head (hopefully just informally ?) at the end of next week :j If this does come off, and of course it's a big if, I would feel much more secure about our spends now and wedding plans, knowing I had a good salary when I get back to help offset things. We shall see.
Have a great day everyone; we're off to the foothills walking :jThe 1,000 Day Challenge:Feb 16, 2016500/30,000

Skint Lynne - Good idea on the carvery. We had a £4 curry bag from Morrisons last night and it was pretty good. Ok, the onion bhajis were a bit ropey but for £4 one can't complain
I am having a lazeee day as OH has gone to work. Was going to head into town to do a bit of shopping but looking at the weather decided to just stay at home chilling out instead. May organise my computer files, or do a bit of budgeting work, reading etc. Still got a lentil dhal to chuck in the slowcooker, am having pizza and garlic bread for tea tonightWe must all suffer one of two things: the pain of discipline or the pain of regret and disappointment0 -

Glad to hear this as I have recently started lurking again! I couldn't keep it up through the year but I do like to dip in, and it's great to see so many Frugallers still in the challenge.
Please excuse me if this is old news to everybody but my most recent triumph has been turning off the immersion heater. The shower, washing machine and dishwasher do the heating themselves, and if I need hot water I can just boil a kettle. I hardly notice the difference and my monthly bill has come down by £18 as a result. :j

Hi Redglass, lovely to see you! I do the same with our immersion, great to see it makes such a difference! :T
Had a lovely if knackering 6 3/4 hour walk today, pooped so just off to watch a film on the lappy. Wonder if SFT's doing the same?
Enjoy your lie-ins tomorrow! xxThe 1,000 Day Challenge:Feb 16, 2016500/30,000

Hi Redglass, lovely to see you are still loitering with intent and nice work with the monthly savings from not using the immersion heater!
Bails, how do I tell the chickens not to demand being let out at dawn. When I look at my clock that's going to be closer to 6am than 7am tomorrow morning so my extra hour will need to be this side of midnight. Why can't someone explain to livestock that we don't all function on a dawn 'til dusk time schedule, otherwise we'd all be in bed by now? :rotfl:I reserve the right not to spend.
The less I spend, the more I can afford.

Hmm, good point Nyk... beak mufflers?
:D
Just sent Mum and MiL a long email about wedding progress, so they can feel part of it all. Costs are scaring me but I'm working on it!
Thanks to the lovely BB, I can now access the website of the school I'm interested in and consequently am even more excited! Down Bails, down!I'm deliberately postponing some work here for this week so I can concentrate on preparing thoroughly for the phonecall and my application.
Tired legs and feet from the walk yesterday but it was good to get out of the city. Today we're doing some jobs and meeting up with a friend later after a bit a sightseeing.
Have a great day everyone!
ps oh my god, I've just seen the school has border collies (it's a very special type of school) - could this place BE any more perfect for me?! :j:j:j I can't wait to tell you all about it if I'm successful!

Hi Redglass, good to see you back, and sorry to hear your bad news Thrifty take good care of your BF
Taka I hope you get your funding issues sorted so you know what to apply for and I've got my fingers crossed for you to get funding
I've been busy organising things - cleaning routine with colour co-ordinated chart for OH and I, selling the remainder of my old CDs - so now I need to sort out proper storage for what's left. This morning I got up early and have done a load of laundry and am in the middle of making turkey and veg soup for the rest of the week. I got the turkey steaks in Mr T reduced to £1 for 700g of turkey. I used one steak for my dinner last night - wholemeal wrap with grilled turkey strips and a little sweet chilli sauce - and cooked some spare for lunch today -turkey caesar salad - and the rest is for dinner - marinaded turkey with veg n mash, and the rest for the soup - which will be my lunch for the rest of the week."I cannot make my days longer so I strive to make them better." Sorry to hear your news Thrifty x
I think the cat has just about forgiven us. We had a night away in Stafford for H2B's Dad's birthday, and I left H2B to set up the automatic cat feeder, as he picked me up straight from wok on Friday to drive up there. H2B set it all up then forgot to press the start button. We were greeted by a VERY hungry cat when we got home yesterday!
Then we viewed a car that was on ebay, and have bought it. Collecting next week.Live on £11k in 20110
