If I capped in Dec 2008, how do I know if i'll save money by switching?

I'm with British Gas for both gas and electricity, and capped my tariffs last year. However, if I decide to switch, how exactly will I know that i'll be saving (until after I switch, and then get my first bill)?
Please help (Martin)!
Put last years usage into a comparison site, if you do not know your usage ring BG."When the Government borrows, the citizen has to save".

Thanks fullstop - I presume by 'usage' you means kilowatts over the year?0

Sorry if i'm being thick, but G&E...?0

I would put money on the fact that you could save money if you switched to BG in december, the tariffs that were available then were quite expensive, unfortunately they also carried some big exit fees so check that out before you arrange to switch.Missing Tesco R&R since Feb '07 :A & now a "Tesco veteran" apparently!0
