Importing a motorbike from France
Hi...I wondered if anybody had experience or knowledge of bringing a bike back to the UK?
My French mother in law has bought my husband a 4yr old motorbike as a present (pending my husbands viewing)
The bike is in France but on Italian number plates due to the guy bought it from Italy to his hometown in France but got 'bored' with it so its now for sale.
I know we will have to change the headlight & maybe speedo but does anybody know what else or what forms/costs we need to be looking a before getting it registered with the DVLA. I have looked on the DVLA & customs & excise websites but its a bit 'gobbleygook' to me
Thanks

You'll need :
- form V55/5 from DVLA, this can be posted to you or picked up from DVLA Local Office but not downloaded.
- Current logbook, I'm assuming it would be the Italian one if it's not been registered with French plates
- Certificate of Conformity from manufacturer, they usually charge for this
- Insurance certificate, UK insurance done under the VIN/chassis/frame number as there will be no UK registration mark
- MOT certificate, again under frame no.
- Proof of ID, photo driving licence is best, but DVLA will give you the list of acceptable ID
- £55 first registration fee
- £ for road tax
- HMRC form, usually VAT414 which DVLA send out in the pack.
Have a read through this and you can order the DVLA forms via the link online.
Application would be submitted to local DVLA Office, takes 7-10 working days to register and they may want to inspect the vehicle. Vehicle needs to remain off road until it's registered and displaying plates and tax disc.

It's a certificate that shows that the vehicle meets UK standards. Contact Yamaha in UK (either head office or a dealer who should point you in right direction). Depending on the amount of changes made to vehicle to make it UK roadworthy, it may need to have a separate certificate or test done on it.
Google 'type approval' or vehicle certification agency' for further info
