Credit card purchase protection

in Credit cards
I am about to purchase a conservatory. I have to pay 10% deposit, then three staged payments afterwards. Unfortunately the supplier wants me to pay an additional 1.8% if I pay by credit card.
If I pay the 10% deposit on credit card, then the rest by debit card, what protection do I have? Is it just 10% or the full amount?
The firm is well established but I still worry about what would happen if they went bust halfway through for example.
Thanks in advance, mramra
