My mum used to unpick the pockets from the back of our jeans and sew them on the knees as patches :)

I think Wilkinsons sell patches, if that helps.

I used to do this with OH's overalls, I used to save the tatty legs of the old ones to make patches for the new ones.

No, he did use knee pads :rotfl: before anyone asks :D
  • I would probably use denim from some old jeans or buy some charity shop ones (and save the rest for next time!) rather than buying patches.

no - dont buy patches hun - you can get whole pairs of jeans in charity shops for the price of a patch!
try cutting the patches out of old jeans and using the iron on webbing (there is a strong one for jeans etc). then cutting the webbing to fit the patch and ironing it on. I have used double thickness iron on webbing in the past (very successfully) when I know the item will be hard-used! and if it does start to come apart it only takes seconds to put right!

  • Cheers for all the replies. Remembered last night that he has not long outgrown another pair of jeans that we ready for the bin (knees gone on them too!!). Fortunately, they were still sitting in my bedroom, so will be using them to cut patches to repair his knees :j

If you need to buy jeans or other clothes to cut up for patches from a charity shop it is worth asking if they have been donated any which are too tatty to sell at their normal price rather than buying a good pair.
