Ring 'em up. Some suppliers will want to change the meter, while others like Eon use the existing meter. The just add the night and day rate figures together.
  • Most suppliers should be able to remove the 2 rate meter for a 1 rate meter. I would contact SPOW and check with them. Have a look at joinhydro.co.uk there a really really cheap supplier at the moment, plus cash back !

Thanks, the guy mumbled something about £50 last time i rang, i just rang EDF and they say they will change for free if he switches to them, the online 5 tarriff is apprix £150 cheaper a year than what he is on currently, but we will miss out on the cashback as they say we have to go on the standard tarriff first then switch, by that time online 5 may have gone

I was with Scottish Power when I first moved into my house (2 years ago).

The previous occupiers had the E7 meter and were paying loads extra.

I phoned SP who told me they'd arrange it for me me, for free and the meters were owned by EDF ?

So, EDF came out, changed it for free, and I continued with SP.

Might be worth another call to SP?

My house was also on Economy7 when I moved in 5 years ago, which I changed to standard rate as soon as I moved in. Up until now NPower have just added the night and day rates together, however I have now moved to EDF and they will not do this and have put me back onto Economy7, saying I will have to ring them back in 28 days to change. So appears different companies have different rules!
