How cunnings this! Need to switch but they've relocked me in!

Options
I was waiting until today to switch companies as my capped tariff ends today. But, the cunning types at ScottPower have sent me an email saying 'we've placed you on our new 2010 capped tariff because we're so kind...'. And, if I dont switch before 15th Oct I'll be locked into that. But I havent got time to switch have I? What do I do??????

Their exact text was:

"We've capped your prices until September 2010

*ScottishPower's Capped Price Energy September 2010 Offer guarantees that prices will not rise above the capped rates until after 31st August 2010. We may apply cancellation charges inclusive of VAT of £30 for electricity and £20 for Gas if you switch to Capped Price Energy September 2010 but then cancel your supply contract or switch to another tariff between 15th October 2009 and 31st August 2010. These charges will not be applied if the supply contract is cancelled due to a home move.

**Based on an average of Capped Price Dual Fuel bills across Britain for domestic customers with an average annual usage of 20,500kWh of mains gas and 3,300kWh of Standard Rate electricity who pay monthly by Direct Debit. Comparison correct as at 17th September 2009. All prices include VAT at the current applicable rate of 5%."

Many thanks, Steven

Give them a call on 0800400200 and tell them to take you off fixed term tariffs.
  • I got an email im August offering capped energy until September 2010. It said I could opt out by 30th September. However I got an email on 25th September saying that I am now on the new capped rate.
  • I am ****ing FURIOUS with ScottishPower.

I had to tell them FOUR times I didn't want their ruddy Capped Rate deal before they finally moved me off it, and now they've actually had the ****ing nerve to put me back on to it. Un-funking-believable!!!!

I'm going straight to the Regulator. Their actions have been utterly disgusting.
  • Blimey.
Same old same old with these companies...
Thanks for all comments, I'll ring and switch to standard tariff tonight whilst checking online for the next few days that they haven't switched me back.

Surely they daren't charge me 8 weeks from now for opting out of something I said I didn't asked to be put onto (and rang them to cancel)? If so, all these companies should know me by now as I'm sure I'm one of those calls 'recorded for training purposes'..
