Electricity meter
Options
I have had a broken meter for 6 years now.Have always paid by standing order thus never realised.Couple of years ago they reduced it to only £1.50.I thought it was strange that my bill was so low and when I checked I realised that the meter was not working.I informed them and was duly replaced.By the way the meter was regularly read by them.Sorry the company I am with is Eon.After the meter was replaced they asked me for a reading after a month and from that they estimated that I had used a certain amount of units and have sent me a bill.Does anyone know if I have any grounds to dispute this estimate?

Hi jshipping
Sounds like you have suffered from a stopped meter.
Our usual practice in these circumstances is to look at the usage on the replacement meter. We then use these figures to estimate what we believe you would have used during the time the meter was stopped.
As electricity was used whilst the meter was stopped we are able to charge for this. However, given the time involved, there may be ways we can help lessen the impact of this.
For instance, the Billing Code may apply. It very much depends on the circumstances of your particular case. What I would do is contact us and ask if it does apply to you.
If it does, we will only back bill for one year.
It may be an idea to contact our Directors Office in this instance as I do know the agents there have a good knowledge of the Billing Code. Their contact details will be on your bill.
Whatever the outcome of this, we will be happy to spread any debt resulting from back billing over a period of time. Hopefully, this will make it more manageable.
Really sorry you have had this problem jshipping but hope this helps a little. Give me a shout if you need any more info. Will be happy to help.
