Hi,

I would like to buy a car from Great Trade Centre.
It is a 2004 model A2 with 65000 miles on the clock marked at £7200.

Any suggestions at how to get them to reduce price ?

That does seem expensive, with limited details you provide, if it was a basic trim model on an 04 plate you should be looking at about 5.4k for the higher spec sport trim they are up to 6.7k both were calculated on a 1.6 petrol engine If it is the 1.4 diesel then it could be slightly higher in price but I wouldnt think so much.

Im not sure how the company works.
You could try asking for a discount you have nothing to loose and be prepaired to walk away if they dont give you want you want. if you get the sales person at the right time of the week/month where he is behind on his targets then he may even throw his grandmother in the deal too.

I think their prices are fixed. There is also a fee you have to pay (£61 from memory). Their prices are normally quite competative though

They are glass.co.uk prices. dont use the glass site as you have to pay for that go to https://www.vauxhall.co.uk then the owner section and then vaule my car and give it as much info as you can.

I have found the worst place to buy a specific car is the dealer for that car. yes they have a huge choice but their prices are slightly higher, check out your local dealers of other cars and see if they have received any in part exchange they usually sell them at cheaper prices.

I am looking for a fresh car at the moment for work and have been checking a few places I want either a pug 307 or a new shape astra. the problem with this method is the limit of whats available they may have 1 or 2 options where the dealer has a load of the them. if your not looking for somthing to specific then you could find a bargain searching for an Audi A2 should be ok searching for a black one may limit your chances using this method.

    Hi anitha,

You should get more replies on the motoring board, so I'll move your thread over there.

65k miles on a 2 year old car? That's a lot of miles in a short time... personally I'd be checking that car with a fine tooth comb and ensuring it had a pretty comprehensive warranty.

For example my car is a vauxhall meriva, 54 plate. I got it got £6350 with less than 4k on the clock. That's right, not half way toward it's first service.

Granted the Audi A2 is a nice car, but that doesn't seem like a good deal to me.

Just done a quick check on autotrader.co.uk and found several Audi A2's for the same price range at around 20k miles.

Suggest you register on their site (free) to unlock extra search options. Then search for audi, A2 and limit the search to up to 2 years (if you're fussed about age) or by mileage/price for other search criteria.

    However as stated, within 30 secs I found a 17k 2004 model for £7295.

65000 miles on a two year old car there your first bargaining tool cause if you go by average mailage (12000/year) that car would be over 5 years old.

One thing i would always say is never pay the price on the screen as there is always a margin built into this and by the looks of this quite a big margin.
Just ask for a discount most liely they will turn round a say what can you afford or what do you want to pay. Answer this back with a question like whats the lowest you can go and keep asking until they tell you if they don't give a rediculosly low price and the will dismiss this and continue with the what the lowest price line of questions. If they do not budge and you really want the car now get them to give you extras e.g. tank of fuel mats etc. just make sure you get them in writing and when you pick the car up.
You could always wait till the end of the month when the salesmen will be looking to meet targets and you will probably get a good discount but there is the risk of the car being sold before then but i wouldnt of thought so at that price

Also, never get emotionally attached to 1 car. There are thousands and thousands of 2nd hand cars for sale. The model/colour etc you're after will be repeated hundreds of times in the classifieds. So if you miss one, no bother there will be another for sale at the next garage tomorrow.

Although you can't haggle at the GTC you can ask if the price is about to be reduced. They will often knock £1000 off a car if there's no interest after a couple of weeks so it may be possible to expedite this. I once went to look at a £6999 car and later decided to buy. When I went back it was £5999 :)
My last purchase there was £15999 against a £19k Parkers value.
    Can I help?
