I can recommend either AVG Free or Avast for the antivirus, and maybe coupled with Spybot Search and Destroy for spyware, all of those being free

I'd say AVG free 8.5, and MalwareBytes Anti Malware as a back up, both free.0

Forget AVG and Spybot.
Avira Antivirus
Superantispyware - on demand scanner
Malwarebytes - on demand scanner
PCTools Firewall Plus
Threatfire
Winpatrol0 -

The main way to keep safe is to browse to "safe sites" only and only open up emails from people you know. Oh and the above.0

AVG is a resource hog as of version 8 and isn't as good as Avira which uses less resources. And Spybot is definitely not as good as either SAS or MBAM. And Winpatrol does a better job than Spybots Teatimer and takes up a hell of a lot less resources doing it.
Theres nothing wrong with them but theres better out there.0 -
Ok, that's fair enough, they were just the first few that popped into mind. I would aggree that AVG 8 isn't as good as the previous version.0

Maybe my first post was a bit blunt, I will explain more next time.0

I don't need an explanation? Lol.0

As mentioned, MalwareBytes and SuperAntiSpyWare.
For a AV program I recommend Microsoft Security Essentials:

Free download. Good deals.0
